How to register
your domain name?
Once you have decided
on the name that you want, it is time to register that name. Registration
is fast, easy and getting cheaper by the day. Domain names are registered
with an organization called InterNIC through domain name registrars.
Previously, you can only register through limited registrars but now,
there so many places where you can have your domain registered. Here are
the steps:
1. Choose your
registrar. You can do this by typing "domain name registration" in the
search engines and check out the options. You can also find some
registrars on the left section of this page.
Under the domain name
registration of register a domain, type in your desired domain name and
the extension that you wish. In most cases, the .com extension is already
taken. Decide if you wish to take the other extensions or continue
exploring other domain names that you can get a .com extension.
2. Once you have
settled on the name and the extension, click the "buy now" or "order now"
button. At this point, you will most likely be directed to the payment
window. Most registrars prefer payment by credit card so get your card
ready. Your payment lets you own that domain for a year, unless you choose
a longer period. When the 1 year period is about to expire, your registrar
will notify you so you can decide whether to renew or not.
3. In the Contacts
section, you may choose to put your name on all the contacts: technical,
administration, etc. This way, you have complete control over your domain
name.
If you do not have
a website yet, this domain is simply "parked" by your registrar until you
decide to use it.
